NEWMARKET STATION PROPOSAL
BRISBANE
“To re invigorate the soul of a unique train station with a rich history and make it a place once again that isn’t only for transport but a place of community.” Conlon Birrell Landscape Architects associated with Sparc Architects to inspire Queensland Rail for future station renovation projects. One of the oldest stations in the Queensland Rail City Network, Newmarket Station was made the example. The Proposal strongly considered the stations history, regional context, its proximity to green open space, present and potential commuters, current site access, facilities, way finding, services and saftey. Combining these in depth studies with the sites current attributes produced the opportunity to create a linear park as part of the station to provide better connectivity between the surrounding key open spaces. The proposal also applied place making and way finding strategies to increase and facilitate passengers, microclimate and sustainability practices to reduce waste and increase amenity, durable and low maintenance modern materials that embrace classic and traditional elements of significance to Newmarket station and it’s past.
